Make money from home, start a side hustle

The worldwide health crisis, Covid-19, has restructured the business industry and had a significant effect on the global economy. Unemployment rates in the UK are at their highest figure for five years. The majority of economists are expecting this to rise throughout 2021, with an estimated 2.2 million Brits predicted to be out of employment by the end of the year.

According to government statistics, in April 2020 46.6% of employed people did some work from home. Of those who did work from home, over 85% did so because of the Covid-19 pandemic. For those experiencing homework, it could be seen as somewhat as an eye-opener as to the freedom it gives and the flexibility of hours - maybe, with no commute, you’re finding yourself with more free time, or are wondering if you could be lining your own pockets instead of working to line those of someone else with a side hustle.

There are certainly many advantages to working from home for yourself, and I’m going to briefly explain the 5 different ways you can safely, and often very successfully, make money from home. I can also offer a Start-up Bootcamp package to help you begin your new venture, as well as a free consultation if you feel this is something you could benefit from.

Top 5 ways to make money from home

 1.     Sell your stuff

So, this seems a basic starting point but the great advantage it has is that there’s absolutely no setup required. For this side hustle, you don’t need a business name, insurances, loans, or premises - in the beginning anyway, this can all come down the line if you decide to do this professionally for others where you can obtain an income through commission on products you sell on the behalf of an established business.

If you’re creative, you could sell the items you make on Etsy - there are already over 2.5 million people doing this, in 234 different countries.

 2.     Manage social media accounts

Covid-19 has impacted the lives of every potential consumer and so many more people are spending time online and using social media as a result. Companies are massively investing in their social media platforms to generate custom and subsequently sales. At the same time, they’re desperate to run things in a cost-effective way and this is where you can come in. You could contact local, nationwide, or even global businesses and offer up your services as a social media manager for a contracted monthly fee.

 3.     Tutor online

Whatever your skills are, they will be valuable to someone so offer them online, over Skype, Google Meets, Zoom, or even Whatsapp. Can you play the guitar, speak a foreign language, have a degree in Mathematics? Maybe you know about mental wellbeing and can offer support remotely. This could be a really rewarding way to side hustle, with potential growth for a brand new career.

 4.     Gain an online following

Are you charismatic? Funny? Can people relate to you and your life? If so, creating an online blog or social media page could be highly profitable. Global funny Mum, Tiffany Jenkins, began her blog ‘Juggling the Jenkins’ in 2017, giving people an insight into the life of a down-to-earth Mum and the highs and lows that come with it. One video went viral, she went on to sell a book about her life and now has an estimated net worth of $1.5 million, in addition to this her podcasts gain her in the range of $55k to $80k.

 5.     Sell your services online

There are many platforms for freelancers to sell their skills online; People Per Hour, Fiverr, Freelancer, and Upwork are the major players here. There are selling fees but also freelancer protection. If you can write a blog, design a website, draw up a logo or draft a press release, you’re good to go.

In addition to working behind a computer, you could also consider:

  ●      Driving for Uber

●      Dog Walking

●      Mystery Shopping

●      Online Surveys

●      Delivery Driving

●      Babysitting

●      House Sitter

●      Cleaner

Or you could take this time to begin a whole new career! The list is almost endless and limited only by your imagination.
